Zirconia Ceramic (ZrO2) stands out for its superior performance compared to other ceramics. With high density, zirconia ceramics excel in high-wear environments, making them ideal for wear-resistant components such as bearings, pump shafts, and abrasives. One of its key advantages is its higher toughness and impact resistance, attributed to its unique phase transformation toughening mechanism, which enables it to withstand significant impacts and stresses.

Zirconia ceramics maintain their mechanical properties and structural stability at high temperatures, with a high melting point of approximately 2700°C, making them suitable for high-temperature applications such as gas turbine components and heating elements. Additionally, zirconia ceramics exhibit excellent corrosion resistance against various acids, bases, and salts, making them well-suited for components in chemical reactors and corrosive environments.

With a low thermal conductivity, zirconia ceramics help reduce heat transfer, making them ideal for insulation applications such as thermal linings and heat shields.

Preparation Process:

  • Powder Preparation: Use high-purity zirconia powder and add stabilizers (e.g., Y₂O₃).
  • Forming: Form the ceramic green body using pressing or injection molding.
  • Sintering: Sinter at 1500-1600°C, allowing grain densification.
  • Surface Treatment: Improve surface quality through polishing or grinding.

Process Control: Strictly control sintering temperature and time, as they significantly affect the mechanical properties (e.g., bending strength and toughness) of zirconia.
